Rebecca Yount
I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor in Washington, DC with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Washington University and Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Psychology from the University of Richmond. The majority of my post-graduate training hours were spent at an acute inpatient hospital, providing direct patient care, crisis intervention, and psychotherapy to those suffering from severe, chronic mental illnesses and psychiatric crises. I also have extensive experience working with adolescents and adults with eating disorders at the residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient levels of care.
I specialize in working with adults experiencing the effects of trauma, eating disorders and body image concerns, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, and life transitions. I approach therapy with an integrated psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approach, with a trauma and attachment-informed lens. I believe our relationships form the foundation for the rest of our lives and have an enormous impact on who we become and how we adapt to life’s many stressors. By taking the time to process these complex relationships, you can begin to work towards identifying patterns and developing new ways of thinking and coping.
I approach sessions with a focus on each client’s strengths and individuality to enhance emotional regulation and awareness. Becoming attuned with your emotions can be a threatening and unfamiliar process but my mission is to enhance your feelings of safety through empathy, directness, and a healthy amount of humor.
