    Lena Black

Lena Black is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in Washington, DC. She holds a Master’s degree in Developmental Psychology from M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia, and a Post-Master’s Certificate in Counseling from The George Washington University, Washington, DC.

Lena brings a rich, multicultural perspective and deep compassion to her counseling work, rooted in both lived experience and extensive training. Born and raised in Kyrgyzstan during a time of national upheaval, Lena witnessed the profound psychological impact of economic collapse, displacement, and social instability on individuals and families. These early observations sparked her lifelong commitment to understanding human behavior and supporting others through life’s most challenging transitions.

Lena’s therapeutic approach is holistic, collaborative, and deeply client centered. She believes that each individual’s story is shaped by a complex web of internal and external factors, and that healing begins with genuine connection, empathy, and nonjudgmental presence. Drawing from modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and other client-centered approaches, Lena tailors each session to the unique needs of her clients. She trusts in the body’s innate resilience and integrates somatic awareness and mindfulness into the healing process.

Lena is in the advanced phase of her training to become a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner through the Somatic Experiencing International Trauma Institute. In addition, she holds a Reiki Master/Practitioner certification from the Reiki Center of Greater Washington. She is dedicated to her professional growth and continuously attends various workshops, seminars, and trainings in mental health and integrative wellness.

Lena’s diverse professional journey, multicultural background, and global experiences deeply inform her inclusive and culturally sensitive counseling style. Fluent in English and Russian, and conversational in Kyrgyz, Lena works well with individuals from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

At the heart of Lena’s practice is the belief that we all deserve a good life; we deserve to be seen, heard, and accepted despite any circumstances we might find ourselves in. Lena is here to support your journey toward happiness, inner peace, strength, and fulfillment. Life can be challenging at times, but you do not need to be alone on this path.

“If you’re ready to begin, I’d be honored to walk beside you on this journey.” – Lena
