    Katie Zweig

I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor and Resident in Counseling practicing in Virginia and Washington, DC. As a therapist, my goal is to support you in building an understanding of yourself through recognizing patterns in your behaviors, thoughts, and emotions. I use a psychodynamic, attachment-oriented approach with a strong focus on the interpersonal process of therapy. I believe our past contributes to our current experiences, and I hope to help clients learn to heal their pain through building a sense of self-compassion. I meet my clients where they are and provide emotional nurturance that is so difficult to provide to yourself. I strongly believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for healing and I use our relationship to highlight and validate your emotional experience in the moment, helping you build an understanding of your own relationship patterns.

I have extensive experience working with adult and adolescent clients diagnosed with eating disorders at the residential, partial hospitalization, and outpatient levels of care. I work with all clients from an anti-diet, Health at Every Size framework. In addition to my work in the eating disorder field, I also have experience working clients who have struggled with trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and adoption-related issues.

I received my BS in Psychology from Appalachian State University in 2018 and my MA in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Lewis & Clark College in 2022. In addition to my masters degree, I also obtained a certificate in eating disorder treatment from Lewis & Clark College.
