Heather Wydra

Heather is a board-certified Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor providing therapy in Washington, D.C., both in person and via telehealth. She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from William & Mary, with a concentration in Military and Veterans Counseling. She holds a J.D. from Fordham Law School and a B.S. in Clinical Psychology from Tufts University. Heather has completed Level 2 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
Heather brings the analytical skill and empathy of her legal career to therapy, with a special interest in supporting clients through life transitions and anxiety—whether it’s starting school, changing careers, parenting, shifting relationships, or coping with unexpected challenges like job loss or health issues. She adapts her approach to each client, using mindfulness, values exploration, and cognitive strategies to help address unhelpful thoughts.
Heather brings unique experience advocating on behalf of LGBTQ+ individuals, people facing discrimination, and employees seeking workplace accommodations for a physical or mental health disability. She also works as a Family Court mediator, handling divorce and custody matters.
Heather’s approach is Person-Centered, integrating evidence-based techniques from various modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy(ACT), and Motivational Interviewing. Heather creates a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients are empowered to cultivate resilience and pursue meaningful growth.
