Kurt Metz, Ph.D.
Kurt Metz, Ph.D., received his Doctorate in School Psychology from the University of Kentucky in 2005. He also holds a Specialist in Education (Ed.S.) in School Psychology from Auburn University (1997), a Master of Arts in School Counseling from Gallaudet University (1989), and a Bachelor of Science in Education in Social Studies from Shippensburg University (1986). Dr. Metz is a Kentucky Certified School Psychologist and is currently pursuing his postdoctoral work through Parkhurst and Associates.
Dr. Metz recently joined Gallaudet University’s Department of Psychology as Assistant Professor of School Psychology. He has extensive background, training, and experience in the fields of deafness, psychology, and special education. As an individual who has a moderately-severe bilateral hearing loss, Dr. Metz has acquired fluent American Sign Language (ASL) skills as a second-language learner. Primary clinical interests center on psychoeducational evaluations (i.e., cognitive, academic achievement, and social/emotional assessments) with school-age children who have an educationally significant hearing loss. In addition, Dr. Metz will be providing individual and/or small group therapy to D/deaf and hard-of-hearing gay men on issues related to sexual orientation and identity development, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, and self-esteem.
Dr. Metz is available for appointments on evenings and weekends.
